MSc IT Research Summary | Cloud Application Migration Success

Executive Summary

As part of my MSc in Information Technology at Cardiff Metropolitan University, I completed dissertation research focused on the factors influencing successful cloud application migration in a mid-sized Sri Lankan IT company.

The study explored how technology awareness, financial preparedness, and leadership support contribute to successful cloud migration outcomes in emerging-market business environments. Using a quantitative case study approach, data were collected from technical and managerial professionals involved in cloud migration initiatives.

The findings highlighted that stronger cloud awareness, better financial planning, and active management support were key drivers of successful migration outcomes. The research offers practical insights for organizations planning cloud transformation initiatives, particularly in resource-constrained environments.

This work strengthened my knowledge of cloud adoption, digital transformation, IT strategy, systems thinking, and enterprise technology decision-making, while reinforcing my professional interest in systems administration, IT infrastructure, cloud operations, and technology transformation.
